Cycles are all around us. There are moon cycles, life cycles, body cycles, seasonal cycles, celestial cycles. The list goes on and on. So why is it when it comes to emotional cycles, it feels like only one spectrum of the cycle is socially acceptable? I would equate the “acceptable” cycle to sun energy or summer energy. It’s the go go go go energy. The energy of blooming. If there is any room for contemplation within it, it’s while you’re on the move!
But we forget that summer energy is only balanced if it stands on the foundation of all the other cycles. We need winter, spring, and fall energy in order to have complete and balanced summer energy.
Have you ever felt judged by others for not being an eternal summer person? Have you judged others for this? I think we’ve all been on both sides of this fence. When you’re in your summer flow, it can be hard to remember how you’ve ever been anywhere else and hard to understand why others might have difficulty joining you.
I think the most valuable thing we can do for ourselves is slow down enough to check in with what our spirits and souls are asking of us. Do we need a little bit of winter to let our energy settle out and rest? Do we need some fall energy, a letting go of our creations to make room for contemplation and rest? Maybe we have seeds that need to be nourished and are ready to germinate, but need more tender care before they bloom into summer?
Once we know what we need, we don’t have to do anything externally at first—we can allow ourselves to shift energetically and know that the Universe will provide us with opportunities to do what we need to do. There are large, overarching cycles in our lives and smaller cycles too, all the way down to hourly cycles. The important thing is to honor your own being by honoring them and the only way to do that is to know where you’re at!
I was in the “letting go” energy of fall for a long time and now I am in winter. (The most judged personal cycle of them all!) I’ve had lots of anger energy sent in my direction because of this cycle, but I KNOW that the best thing I can do is to honor it. I know that the only way to move forward is to honor it. I am resting, taking long hikes in nature every night, eating lots of grounding foods, and doing things that allow my spirit to rejuvenate so that when my spring comes, I will be ready to embrace it.
If someone judges you while you’re in one of the less accepted cycles, the key is not to believe them and judge yourself. They are just disconnected to Spirit and themselves in those moments. Forgive them, forgive yourself, and go about your merry way. There are beautiful things about each cycle. Enjoy them! xoxo
